The Story
More than Great Food!
Adam is a man who shows his love through feeding others. Everyone and anyone who knows him can attest to this. After catering for over 15 years while still working a 9-5 job, he decided to take it to the next level and bought his food truck, Spanky’s Gourmet Grub in 2016. But this passion began long before that.
He started off as a college athlete at James Madison University. However, that all changed when he got a serious injury and lost his short term memory which transformed his life forever. The only thing he remembered was food!
During his recovery, he read book after book about the science of food and how different foods interacted with one another. So, out went the football career and in came his true passion and obsession with food; only this time, he would not just be eating it, but instead preparing it. He never thought his love for food would be his life’s calling.

Adam "Spanky" Jernick buys first food truck
Turning the dream into reality! The idea was always there, I just needed a truck to work out of and some friends who believed in me and my vision. With the help of the OG’s of the truck Joe Piro and Mike McCue, I was finally able to get the ball rolling. Later adding Frank DiPiano and John Fraraccio to the mix, we now have what has been called the most delicious and entertaining food truck in NJ!

The Business
Takes Off
With the help of a few great friends we grinded through the first few years
trying to tackle every festival we could to spread our name. It all paid off in
2019 and 2020 when Spanky’s Gourmet Grub won 1 st place at the Battle of
the Burger at the Meadowlands Racetrack. Once we made a name for
ourselves, Spanky’s found its identity being a private party specialist. In
2022, Spanky’s took home the third 1st place title at the Battle of the
Burger. Then the dream came alive.

mortar it deserves
In June 2022, ground was broken for the new brick and mortar home for
Spanky’s, named Jernick’s Specialties on Franklin Ave in Nutley. Jernick’s will feature all the specialties offered on the food truck plus much more including daily student specials, take out and catering. Jernick’s food and the other specialty items you find in his store are all hand-crafted with fresh, never frozen ingredients.
